Esprit commits to more sustainable
viscose production

Esprit joins the Changing Markets Foundation Roadmap to promote more sustainable viscose production

Esprit will work with suppliers and viscose manufacturers to move to a closed loop production system by 2023-25

At the end April 2018, Esprit committed to the Roadmap towards responsible viscose as outlined by the Changing Markets Foundation. With this, Esprit commits to improve the manufacturing process of viscose and modal fibres. Esprit is already working on using more sustainable cellulose fibres. In September 2015, we joined the CanopyStyle commitment. This initiative supports processes that do not use ancient and endangered forests in the production of man-made cellulosic fabrics. Adhering to sustainable principles has been at the centre of Esprit’s ethos since its foundation in 1968. Esprit is committed to protecting the environment and promoting the social well-being of those in the garment industry. Making this commitment to the Roadmap towards responsible viscose & modal manufacturing is part of these goals.Following the roadmap outlined by the Changing Markets Foundation, Esprit will take allsteps to promote and improve the sustainable production of viscose and modal fibres. Esprit will clearly communicate procurement requirements and evaluate the environmental impact of the production process and social impacts of suppliers along the whole supply chain. The goal is to minimise the effects of harmful chemicals in the manufacturing processes by adopting a closed loop system. Esprit and the Changing Markets Foundation share the idea of a responsible and clean textile industry. By conveying the ecological requirements for viscose production to its producers, Esprit promotes a sustainable change in the production of fibres.
