Changing lives: Esprit supports Surfpop!

During a recent campaign shoot in South Africa, Esprit got to know Surfpop, a non-profit organization, committed to supporting children in need.

Surfpop aims to positively impact the lives of children who face many hardships. Most of them come from the suburb of Muizenberg near Cape Town. Through after-school activities, the children get support in their studies and learn the necessary life skills to guide them towards a more promising future.

Girls and young women from disadvantaged communities living in poverty face a lot of inequality. Esprit decided to sponsor nine girls to join the Surfpop group and benefit from the program.

Surfing and education: A powerful formula

Established in 2015, Surfpop not only offers surfing lessons but also nutritious meals and focused education. Surfpop aims to improve the mental wellbeing, resilience, social behavior, physical health and school performance of the children and helps to expand their horizons with vocational and life skills.

“I enjoy being in the ocean because I forget all my problems. Surfing makes me feel strong and confident”, says sixteen year old Asenako when asked what she likes most about the Surfpop program.

Supporting important social causes has always been a part of Esprit’s DNA and taking a stance on important topics such as gender equality is part of Esprit’s values.
